'A lot of things will change' – Ilkay Gundogan looks ahead as Hansi Flick replaces Xavi at Barcelona

Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan says he expects a lot to change at the club. Hansi Flick replaces Xavi as coach.

Flick has signed a two-year contract with the Catalans and will join Gundogan having previously worked with him internationally.

Here's what Gundogan thinks:

“We have a new coach, so it looks like a lot of things will change,” he said.

“We have to adapt in the best possible way and as quickly as possible because we don't have much time to prepare for the new season because of the Euro.”

Still, Gundogan is convinced that the future is bright at Barcelona, not least because of the number of talented youngsters in and around the first team.

“It's part of Barcelona's DNA: the evolution of La Masia players, especially this season, Lamine, Cubarsí and Fort, who played wonderfully and took responsibility from a very young age. They are 16/ 17 years old, but they are playing at a very high level and will improve further in the coming seasons. We are lucky to have these players in our team.

“They have a lot of talent and potential, so they just need to learn from me through experience, because I have had a lot of experiences and faced ups and downs, so I try to teach them to manage them.

“I think it was a season full of ups and downs emotionally and physically. But I discovered the championship, the club of my childhood dreams and new teammates. I also learned a lot and it was an experience that I really enjoyed.

Flick will be tasked with bringing silverware back to the club after taking over, with Barca having finished the season empty-handed under Xavi.
