All England Open Badminton Quarter-Final Highlights: Lakshya Sen defeated Lee Zii Jia in three games after pushing his All-England quarter-final against the Malaysian to a decisive result. The Malaysian won the first match 22-20 after 23 minutes of fast badminton. The Indian held the lead at the halfway point of both matches against Malaysian Lee.
Lakshya was runner-up at the prestigious All England Championships last year, while Lee has won the title once in the past.
Lakshya trailed 2-8 against world number 4 Anders Antonsen in the decisive third match in Birmingham on Thursday, before defeating fourth seed Denmark 20-22, 21-13, 21-11 in a 78-minute thriller.
Lakshya, 21, won men’s singles gold at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham but has since been struggling for form after a nasal operation disrupted his progress at the end of 2022.
The other Indians competing on Thursday all lost, leaving Lakshya the only Indian in action on Friday. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who had just won the French Open title last week, crashed just as did PV Sindhuwho was defeated by South Korean An Se Young.
