NEW DELHI: A stellar performance from Kolkata Knight Riders, with impressive spells from Mitchell Starc and Andrew Russell alongside Venkatesh Iyer's half-century captaincy, propelled the Purple and Gold brigade to their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title on Sunday.

Finishing on top of the group stage of the 10-team league, KKR continued their dominance by beating SRH in the first qualifying match on Tuesday and carrying that momentum through to the final, which ended by just 29 overs .
In a symbolic gesture of appreciation, KKR players elevated their mentor Gautam Gambhir on their shoulders to celebrate the victory.
This marked Gambhir's first stint as a mentor at KKR, having led the team to titles in 2012 and 2014 as captain.
