Arjun Tendulkar leaves the field at mid-off after consecutive sixes from Nicholas Pooran

MI seamer Arjun Tendulkar was seen rushing to the dugout after being hit for six consecutive overs by Nicholas Pooran in his first match of the 2024 Indian Premier League on Friday (May 17). Notably, Tendulkar was introduced into the playing XI as a pace replacement. spearhead Jasprit Bumrah who was rested for the match against LSG ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

The 24-year-old had a good game after giving away just ten runs in his first two overs. However, he had an uphill task playing against well-placed Nicholas Pooran in his second spell, who greeted him with colossal hits that landed deep in the stands at the Wankhede Stadium.

However, much to everyone's surprise, the left-arm seamer was seen rushing towards the dugout after being hit for six consecutive times as muscle cramps interrupted his spell. As a result, Tendulkar (0/22 in 2.2 overs) could not return to the ground in time and Naman Dhir was made to bowl the remaining four balls of the 15 on.

Earlier, Tendulkar had also trapped Marcus Stoinis in front of the stumps in his second over, but the decision was overturned by the third umpire via DRS. Meanwhile, the bowling change didn't make much difference to Pooran's intentions. He also greeted Dhir with a huge six followed by a boundary to deep extra cover.

The onslaught continued as the left-hander gave a strike to KL Rahul off the last ball who used his feet to smash Dhir for the fourth maximum of the over to make 29 runs.

The duo came together at the crease when LSG were 69/3 after 9.3 overs and added 109 runs from 44 balls for the fourth wicket. Pooran was eventually dismissed for 75 off 29 (5×4, 8×6) as he was caught by Suryakumar Yadav at long-on in the 17th on. On the other hand, Rahul was dismissed for 55 (41) as MI picked three consecutive wickets to make a comeback.

Following their dismissals, Ayush Badoni (22* off 10) and Krunal Pandya (12* off 7) finally played crucial appearances to help LSG finish their innings on 214/6. Nuwan Thurshara (3/28) and Piyush Chawla (3/29) were the picks of MI's bowlers.
