Deschamps and Henry react to Real Madrid’s position not to release French players for the Olympics

The summer of 2024 promises to be special for football fans around the world. While everyone is excited about the European Championship in Germany, the Summer Olympics will take place this year in Paris.

Speaking of which, Real Madrid have already made headlines recently in would have refusing to allow Kylian Mbappe to participate in the Olympics this summer.

In fact, Real Madrid have also not granted permission to play to other French players, including Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouameni and Ferland Mendy.

All of these players are eligible to compete in the Olympics, but it seems Real Madrid have no desire to risk their fitness.

Didier Deschamps on Real Madrid’s decision

During a recent interaction with the media, Didier Deschamps spoke about Real Madrid’s decision not to allow its French players to participate in the Olympic Games.

Unsurprisingly, the coach of the France team made a witty remark, particularly pointing the finger at Florentino Perez.

“You can ask Thierry. It’s a bit of an old-fashioned decision. The one who decides is the businessman (Florentino Perez). As long as the Olympics are not officially part of FIFA, they can do this. » Deschamps said (h/t AS).

Deschamps, known for his pragmatism as a coach, is not wrong to point out that the Olympics are not a tournament recognized by FIFA and therefore have very little value.

Thierry Henry on Real Madrid’s position

Even France Under-21 coach Thierry Henry agreed with Deschamps’ comments, saying (h/t RMC Sport), “That’s always been the case. I knew how difficult this was going to be. I suspected it. This is completely normal, especially in clubs abroad.

“It’s the Olympics here, in France, the French clubs will be there I think to help. But for foreign clubs, I suspected it.

“We will see what we can do, the decision will remain that of the clubs, since these are not FIFA dates. We will try to discuss, but it is not easy.

The Frenchman added that he would try to convince clubs to release their players, saying: “We will try to talk, see what we can do. There are quite a few branches on the tree. We need to survey everyone. We will see if we can receive them.

On the possibility of Mbappé missing the Olympics, he added: “We are going to do what needs to be done at club level. We know he is going to leave (PSG). We try to put together the best team. Everyone wants to come but it’s difficult.

Real Madrid’s decision, meanwhile, is also quite logical, knowing that at least three of these four French people are guaranteed to participate for France in the European Championship.

Given the risks associated with physical condition, very few people can Whites‘ decision.
