Dhoni fans disappointed after denying Daryl Mitchell single in PBKS match


In a rare twist in his career, MS Dhoni was criticized for his actions during the final of an IPL 2024 contest. He was questioned about his decision to deny Daryl Mitchell, known for his powerful hits, the chance to hitting in CSK's final innings against PBKS at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, May 1.

The drama unfolded as Dhoni faced three dot balls in the 20th over against Arshdeep Singh. Despite starting the game with a boundary through the covers, Dhoni struggled with a few slower deliveries from the left-arm pacer. However, on the third legal delivery of the final, Dhoni hit a cover shot and Mitchell immediately went for a run.

Surprisingly, Dhoni didn't seem interested in taking the run, forcing Mitchell to run towards the other end and then quickly return to the non-striker's end before the defender could collect the ball and return it, causing confusion .

Although Dhoni redeemed himself on the fifth ball of the over by hitting Arshdeep for a huge six over deep extra cover, his actions drew criticism from fans on social media, with some calling them “selfish”.

Commenting on the incident, a 'X' user said, “There are very few batters in the last 3 years who have scored runs consistently in all 3 formats. Mitchell is probably the best of them. I didn't like that he was refused the strike, he's not a follower.”

Another echoed similar sentiments, saying: “MS Dhoni turns down a single in the 20th over with Daryl Mitchell at the other end. Embarrassing stuff,” while a third user remarked, “I’ve never seen a more selfish batsman than Dhoni.”
