Dinesh Karthik draws the curtains on a long playing career

Karthik also sent a huge message of thanks to his supporters throughout the long journey.

“I would like to thank all my coaches, captains, selectors, teammates and support staff who have made this long journey enjoyable and enjoyable. Among the millions of people who play this sport in our country, I consider myself one a lucky few to have had the chance to represent the nation, and even luckier to have earned the goodwill of so many fans and friends.

“My parents have been pillars of strength and support all these years, and I would not be who I am without their blessing. I also owe a lot to Dipika (Pallikal), herself a professional sportswoman who has often put her career in parentheses to take my journey with me.

“Of course, to all the fans and followers of our great game, a huge thank you! Cricket and cricketers would not be the same without your support and best wishes.”

Karthik has represented India in 180 matches across formats, with his most recent appearance coming in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022.

Last month, he played a formidable role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's playoff run in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League.

Karthik made his debut for India in September 2004 in the ODIs, but was soon seen in white as well.

He participated in the first ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2007 and also featured in the latest iteration of it in 2022.
