One of the finest servants of Indian cricket, Dinesh Karthik bid farewell to the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were eliminated from the competition on Wednesday. RCB's defeat against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Eliminator was Karthik's last match in the T20 league, with the veteran wicket-keeper batsman deciding to move on. The RCB players also presented Karthik with a guard of honor after the team was eliminated from the tournament, before sharing a beautiful video in which Karthik's wife Deepika Pallikal was also interviewed.

The video shared by RCB begins with an interview with Virat Kohli where the former franchise skipper recalls his first interaction with Karthik in 2009.

“The first time I met DK, I remember we were playing in South Africa if I'm not mistaken in the 2009 Champions Trophy. It was the first time I shared the dressing room with Dinesh and I found it very amusing, I would say a hyperactive and confused person, most of the time he was moving everywhere, never stopping, that was my first impression of Dinesh,” Kohli said in the video.

“An exceptional talent, a brilliant hitter to watch and my first impression and today's aren't too far off. Just that he has become wiser and has calmed down a lot,” he added.

Virat also praised Karthik's honesty and courage by sharing an interesting anecdote from 2022, when the former didn't have the best of the IPL. It was the wicketkeeper's batting that sat him down and gave him an honest perspective on what could go wrong.

“Off the field, I had some really nice and interesting conversations with him. He is a wise man, he has great knowledge about many things, not just cricket. I really enjoyed my conversations with him Even in this phase in 2022 when I didn't have a good IPL season, I was really struggling to gain confidence, he sat me down several times and gave me a very honest explanation of how. “Whose things he saw and maybe I'm not able to see them myself,” Kohli said.

“So, I just love his honesty and his courage to go and talk to anyone about the things that are important to him. And I think that's the most special thing to me when it comes to Dinesh and that's one thing I always cherished about him. That's why we get along really well,” Kohli added.

Later in the video, Karthik's wife Deepika Pallikal shared some memorable moments from the cricketer's career, while admitting that it would be difficult for him to quit the game. While Deepika shared these moments, she broke down on camera.

Deepika, who is a professional squash player, urged Karthik to spend more time with her and their children now that he is retiring from the sport.
