The ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to conclude with two matches remaining, including the summit clash. Mohammad Rizwan-led Multan Sultans booked their place in Monday’s final after defeating Babar Azam‘s Peshawar Zalmi during qualifying. However, fans have raised concerns over the gloomy atmosphere in Karachi for the PSL qualifiers. Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators clashed in Eliminator 1 in front of a near-empty National Cricket Stadium on Friday.

While the tournament saw near-crowded stages during the matches in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan, there were little to no attendances throughout the Karachi leg.

In fact, the subdued atmosphere of Karchi became even more noticeable with the arrival of Ramzan. According to ESPNcricinfo, PSL officials have decided not to move the remaining matches.

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram said he was “embarrassed” not to see any fans in Karachi for the playoffs.

“It was embarrassing to see no crowd in Karachi. There was no crowd, literally no crowd for the match last night,” Akram said on A Sports.

Here’s how the internet reacted:

For the uninitiated, this will be the first time that a PSL final will be played on a Monday. The previous eight editions ended on the weekend.

However, PSL 2024 gets a day off on Sunday.

On Friday, Islamabad United defeated Quetta Gladiators in Eliminator 1. They will now face Peshawar Zalmin in Eliminator 2 for a place in the final.

Schedule of remaining PSL matches

March 16, 2024, Eliminator 2 (Islamabad United v Peshawar Zalmi), National Bank Stadium

March 18, 2024, Final, National Bank Stadium
