Former Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralidharan is all set to expand his soft drink business to Karnatakaa, and a manufacturing unit will be set up in Chamarajanagar district. The legendary spinner will invest 1,400 crore in the state and also expand its investments in Dharwad, said Karnataka Minister for Large and Medium Industries MB Patil.

In an article X, Patil said that the manufacturing unit is currently being developed in Chamarajanagar district. After meeting Muralidharan along with the officials, the minister wrote, “Legendary cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan is expanding his activities to our state. Sri Lankan cricket icon Muttiah Muralitharan, now a post-retirement entrepreneur, set up a soft drink manufacturing factory in his homeland and has now chosen our state for expansion.

Along with Chamarajanagar, the minister said investments would also be made in Dharwad. “A Rs. 1,000 crore manufacturing plant is currently being developed in Chamarajanagar district, with plans to increase the investment to Rs. 1,400 million. It remains committed to continuing operations in Dharwad,” he added.

Reportedly, 46 acres have already been allocated for the soft drinks company and operations in the manufacturing unit will begin by January 2025. The drinks and confectioneries will be manufactured under the name ‘Muttiah Beverages and Confectioneries’.
