Gerald Coetzee calmly delivered the second fastest delivery in IPL history during the MI vs RR clash at the Wankhede Stadium.

While Rajasthan Royals registered a comfortable victory against Mumbai Indians and the commentators were busy congratulating the maiden IPL champions for their impressive start, Gerald Coetzee had quietly broken the record for the fastest delivery of the season by sending a lightning strike at 157.4 km/h in Riyan Parag.

The third delivery of the 16th over, bowled by Coetzee and Parag hit the winning boundary in the chase of 126, was clocked at 157.4 kmph by the quick gun and with this, Coetzee surpassed the previous record set by Mayank Yadav of the Lucknow Super Giants who had made a fast and furious IPL start against Punjab Kings to take three wickets in a player of the match award-winning performance.

Mayank has been clocked at 150 kmph as many as three times, with 155.8 kmph being the fastest of all as he set the record for the fastest delivery in IPL 2024. However, one day later Coetzee of MI replaced him at the top of this list. .

Overall, this is the second fastest delivery in the history of the IPL after Shaun Tait who had delivered a timed delivery at 157.71 kmph in 2011.

Coetzee replaced speedy New Zealander Lockie Ferguson in second place, who is now third fastest with 157.3km/h to his name. The fourth place belongs to Indian Umran Malik (157 kmph in IPL 2022) and is the fastest Indian in this list.
