GT vs KKR match abandoned due to rain

The abandoned match meant KKR were assured of finishing in the top two with 19 points from 13 matches and a place in Qualifier 1.

Gujarat Titans (GT) looked to fight till their last breath, looking for an outside chance to somehow qualify for the playoffs. But the difficult weather in Ahmedabad dashed their hopes as their must-win match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was called off due to rain without a ball being bowled. This is the first season that GT has failed to qualify for the knockout stages since their debut in the IPL.

The abandoned match meant KKR were assured of a top-two finish with 19 points from 13 matches and a place in Qualifiers 1. GT, last year's runners-up and 2022 champions, are out of the playoff race, collecting 11 points out of 13. matches.

The draw did not take place at the scheduled time of 7 p.m. due to incessant lightning, followed by light drizzle which intensified over time. The deadline was 10:56 p.m. for a five-a-side match, but the official decided to abandon the match, a first in this IPL, due to the constantly intensifying rain and damp outfield.

“It’s a big achievement for us. The talk before the match (against GT) was about not giving up and showing up with the right attitude. GG (Gautam Gambhir) has been pretty solid in the way he wants us to play as a team. He insisted that we come here and always look for two points,” said Kolkata opener Phil Salt as the teams waited for the rain to ease.
