'He's a good strategist': WV Raman backs Gautam Gambhir as potential India head coach | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: With the T20 World Cup 2024 current and current head coach Rahul Dravid set to retire after tournament, spotlight turned to former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir as a potential successor.
Former opener VM Ramanwho had previously served as the team's head coach Indian women's teamexpressed support for Gambhir, highlighting his strategic acumen and leadership qualities.
“Gautam Gambhir will definitely be someone who knows what to do. What he will deliver and what not, is something I cannot predict since I don't have a crystal ball in my hand,” Raman commented at PTI. “But, as far as his acumen is concerned, he is good. He has also been a good captain in the IPL and he is a good strategist.” Raman emphasized that a coach's success depends on how he fits into the IPL. team and adapt its strategies.
“It's all about setting things up when you coach a team and how quickly everyone (the coaches) adapt to the boys and the boys with the way they do things. It's so that's where the key lies, in general.”

Raman hails Dinesh Karthik's entertaining career

Raman also took the opportunity to congratulate keeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik, who announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Saturday. He praised Karthik for his dedication and resilience throughout his career.

“Fantastic career. He must be proud of it. And obviously he doesn't need to sit and think like many others,” Raman said. “He has been extraordinarily entertaining and also someone who is very dedicated to cricket and has overcome so many challenges in his life. He is always a happy character with a wide smile.”
Karthik's dynamic presence on and off the field left a lasting impression and Raman acknowledged his transition to a new career. “He immediately has another career to embark on. I wish him all the best,” concluded Raman.
