NEW DELHI: Known for speaking his mind, no matter what, young Riyan Parag on Saturday, responded boldly when asked to predict the top four teams in the ongoing competition. T20 World Cupsaying he is not interested in watching the tournament.
Parag, who is sometimes seen as arrogant, said he would think of the top four teams when he himself plays the World Cup.
The ICC cricket spectacle, jointly hosted by the USA and West Indies, began on June 2.
In a clip that went viral on social media, Parag first indicated that one of his choices would be India, but later refused to answer the top four questions.
“It will be a biased answer (prediction on the top four teams) but to be very honest, I don't even want to watch the World Cup. I will just see who wins it in the end and I will be happy. When I play the Cup du Monde, I will think about the top four and all that,” Parag said in a conversation with The Bharat Army.
Recently, Parag also asserted that he will continue to play for India one day no matter what.
“At some point you will have to take me, right? So that is my belief, I will play for India. I don't care when,” Parag told PTI in a interview.
The 22-year-old from Assam had a stellar IPL season this year with 573 runs at a strike rate close to 150, ranking 4th in the rankings. Rajasthan Royals.
Playing for the Royals since his debut season in 2018, Parag's totals in the previous five seasons made for sorry reading – 160, 86, 93, 183, 78.
But after having a remarkable IPL season with the bat this year, there is a strong chance that Parag along with Abhishek Sharma and Harshit Rana will be picked for Zimbabwe's tour after the T20 World Cup.
