With the Indian Premier League (IPL) about to begin, many players are hoping to impress the selectors in a bid to secure a place in the national team for the upcoming T20 World Cup. When it comes to the wicketkeeper’s position, people like Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Jitesh Sharma, Rishabh pants, etc. will try to join the team. Another name that has an outside chance of qualifying is that of Dhruv Jurelwho impressed everyone during his first assignment with the Indian team, against England in a Test series.

But when Jurel was asked if he hoped to break the T20 code and make the Indian squad for the World Cup, he made an honest remark and said he didn’t see himself anywhere.

“I don’t see myself anywhere. It has always been a dream of mine (to play the World Cup for India). But I won’t think about it. If I get the opportunity, great. If I don’t understand, fine. For me it’s about scoring runs, playing good cricket, helping my team win. That’s all I think about, whatever the match,” Jurel said in a conversation with News 24.

Jurel faces no competition for the T20 World Cup team from outside but also from within his IPL team, Rajasthan Royals. Samson, one of the best wicketkeeper-hitters in white-ball cricket that India possesses, will also be hoping to leave a lasting impression and clinch that elusive T20 World Cup berth.

Jurel also won MS Dhoni comparisons with the legendary Sunil Gavaskar during India’s Test series against England. The perplexed youth, however, is happy to just be Dhruv.

“Thank you very much Mr. Gavaskar for comparing me to Mr. Dhoni. But I want to say personally that no one can replicate what Mr. Dhoni has done,” Jurel had said during the ‘India Today Conclave’.

“There is only one Dhoni. He always was and always will be. For me, I just want to be Dhruv Jurel. Whatever I do, I want to do like Dhruv Jurel. But Dhoni sir is a legend and he will always remain like that.”, added the young keeper-batsman.
