Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowling consultant Eric Simons has praised franchise icon MS Dhoni and believes speculating on the veteran's future is “crazy”. CSK's title defense came to an end after a 27-run loss to RCB on Saturday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. All eyes were on MS Dhoni, wondering if he would announce his retirement after the end of CSK's 2024 Indian Premier League campaign.

Simons saw Dhoni with the Indian team during his stint as a bowling consultant in 2010. After the match, Simons identified the different attributes that Dhoni offers to the team. He feels that with the simplicity that Dhoni perceives, the game is what cricketers should strive towards.

“There are so many memories of MS Dhoni, the shots he plays keep you out of trouble. I was in the dugout and I said it's amazing, we are in a back-to-the-wall situation and he is at the wicket, you just don't stop believing that he can win for you, so I think one of the things that he brings to the group is an incredible amount of confidence. very simple structure and understanding of the game. a lot of cricketers should strive to really understand the game and he does and he helps the guys with that kind of information and knowledge, so it's not about playing like MS but understanding your game and that's where MS is great,” Simons said after the game.

After CSK endured a heartbreaking loss, all eyes and cameras were focused on Dhoni, waiting patiently for him to hint at his future. But the veteran wicketkeeper has remained tight-lipped about his future, which has left fans anticipating his future.

Simons gave his views on the speculations around Dhoni's future and revealed the best thing he feels about the seasoned finisher.

“But I think anyone who wants to speculate about his future, it's crazy. MS knows what he's going to do. I know this year I saw him hit the ball from pre-tournament camp. He so playing extremely well and he'll make the decision but he's a fantastic guy to be around. He's been fantastic to watch since my days with India and now with CSK. incredible cricketer and an incredible individual in terms of understanding cricket and life I think in many ways what he conveys to the guys is an incredible self-confidence, never say die. and a simple understanding of the game of cricket, he can express it in simple words and I think that's one of the best things about him,” Simons added.

RCB's opponent for the Eliminator clash is yet to be decided. Rajasthan Royals' clash against top-ranked Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad's clash against Punjab Kings will decide their opponent.
