Former Australia captain Michael Clarke believes India have taken a huge risk ahead of the T20 World Cup, saying their heavy reliance on spinners could backfire. India has selected four spinners, Ravindra Jadeja And Axar Patel are all-rounders while Kuldeep Yadav And Yuzvendra Chahal are the two wrist spinners. Clarke said that while India posed a big threat to Australia's chances of winning the T20 World Cup, he pointed out that India had made a big gamble by selecting four spinners.

“I think India took a risk with the team they chose – heavily dependent on spin, very different from Australia. But in the conditions I played in in the Caribbean, I think “How you play spin is going to be a big part of whether you succeed or not, India are the biggest threat to me in terms of who is going to win the World Cup,” Clarke told ESPN.

Clarke, however, reiterated that India are the favorites based on the amount of cricket all the players have managed to get under their belt, referring to the recently concluded IPL.

“If you look at the favorites for the World Cup, it has to be India, just because of the amount of cricket they have played, their preparation has been exceptional. The conditions are different from India, but there are a lot of similarities, so players would be used to that,” he added.

India will face Bangladesh in their only warm-up match on June 1 before opening their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5.

After two months of intense cricket competition under the night lights, the Indian cricket team, without Virat Kohli, began his preparations for the T20 World Cup with a morning training session earlier this week, keeping in mind the 10:30 am start for all his preliminary matches. Kohli took a break for personal work after RCB's ouster in the IPL and in all likelihood, he will rejoin the team by Friday. But we do not know if he will be able to participate in the only preparation match against Bangladesh on Saturday after a long flight.
