IPL 2024: Best thing to happen to MS Dhoni's 110 meters – Dinesh Karthik jokes after RCB beat CSK

Dinesh Karthik showed his humorous side, claiming that MS Dhoni's 110-yard six helped RCB beat CSK in the IPL 2024 match on Saturday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Although the Super Kings were asked to chase down 219, they needed 201 points to retain their fourth place and qualify for the playoffs.

With CSK 17 running out of a playoff spot heading into the final round, Dhoni hit Yash Dayal out of the park. Dayal bowled a hip-high full toss on leg stump and Dhoni pulled the ball out of his sight. But Dayal made amends on the second ball with a slower delivery that got the better of Dhoni.

From there, Dayal found his mojo as RCB beat CSK by 27 runs to qualify for the playoffs. In an inspiring speech in the dressing room, Karthik said Dayal found it easy to bowl with the ball replaced after Dhoni's huge hit.

“The best thing that happened today was Dhoni hitting that six outside the ground, and we got a new ball, which was much better to play with,” Karthik said.

“Yeah, that was good bowling. When in doubt, always throw a full toss at hip height onto the leg stump. Wherever it is, it’s a good mantra to follow when the ball is wet,” Karthik joked.

“People will remember this team”

Karthik also praised RCB for achieving an incredible turnaround. The Challengers once found themselves at the bottom of the standings as they were on a 6-game losing streak. But from there, Faf du Plessis' men won 6 matches in a row and turned the situation around.

“All joking aside, we should be really proud of the journey we’re on. People will always remember certain trips. The way we came back after 8 games, winning 6 games, people will remember this team for a long, long time,” Karthik added.

RCB are now all set to face SRH or RR in the Eliminator which will be played on Wednesday, May 22 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
