The Royals also get a new lease of life by finishing in the top two after the Hyderabad washout.

The elimination in Hyderabad means Sunrisers Hyderabad join Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders (confirmed first) as three of the four teams in the playoffs. The battle now shifts to the last available playoff spot as well as the prized second position on the points table. Here are the competing teams.

Sunrisers Hyderabad
Played: 13, points: 15, NRR: 0.406
Remaining match: PBKS (h)

The only point gained in the washout against Gujarat Titans takes SRH into the playoffs. However, a top-two place is no longer in their hands as Rajasthan Royals can overtake them at 18 points even if SRH wins their final league match and finishes at 17. SRH can still take the second position if he wins his last match. and RR lose theirs. However, if SRH's final match is also canceled and they finish on 16, then RR's 16 points will put them higher in the points table since they have won eight matches, compared to SRH's seven.

Rajasthan Royals
Played: 13, points: 16, NRR: 0.273
Remaining stack: KKR (h)

RR will definitely take second place if they beat Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday. If they lose, they can retain the second place if SRH does not get more than one point in their last match and CSK does not get more than one point against RCB. If SRH's game is eliminated again, they will have fewer wins than RR, which is the first tiebreaker before the net run rate if the teams are tied on points.

However, RR could drop to fourth place if they lose to KKR, SRH beats PBKS and CSK beats RCB.

Royal Challengers Bangalore
Played: 13, points: 12, NRR: 0.387
Stack remaining: CSK (h)

RCB's task is now clear: assuming a score of 200, they need to beat CSK by 18 runs or chase down the target with around 11 balls to spare. A washout will wipe out their playoff hopes, while a reduced match will also make their task tougher as they will still have to win by the same margin to overtake CSK on net run rate.

Super Kings of Chennai
Played: 13, points: 14, NRR: 0.528
Stack remaining: RCB (a)

CSK need a point to qualify, which means a washout will take them through. However, if they win, they have a chance to move up to the second position if RR loses and SRH does not get more than one point in their last match.
