Bumrah was almost unplayable during the match, taking three Afghan wickets while conceding only seven runs in his four overs.

“Obviously Bumrah will be a key bowler for any team. For India he is crucial and we needed to play him better. His numbers suggest we didn’t play him very well. We obviously had some “We talked about it and how we were going to play it, so we weren’t able to execute that and, yeah, it’s very disappointing,” Trott told Reuters after the game.

“Obviously disappointed with some of the shots or the decision-making,” Trott added.

Trott supported skipper Rashid Khan’s decision to use his overs early and stressed the need for other bowlers to step up their efforts.

“When you play three in 26, I think no matter when you play, you did a good job,” Trott said of Rashid.

“It’s not just about one bowler. Other people have to bowl the other 16 overs to be bowled, and it’s the responsibility of the other bowlers to be able to execute the plans that we have in place… I thought Rash played brilliantly today. He has high expectations of himself and he delivered on his promises today.
