Robert Lewandowski’s penalty-taking style was criticized by French goalkeeper Mike Maignan after Tuesday’s 1-1 draw between the two sides at Euro 2024.
Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring for Les Bleus, but Lewandowski hit back on the spot to save Poland a point and deprive France of first place in the group.
Yet Lewandowski’s penalty had to be retaken after Maignan saved the first effort, but was then penalized by the referee for leaving his line.
The Barcelona striker then scored the restart, after his traditional jerky swing, but the kick was not well received by the stopper.
He shared a post on social media after the match that read “as the striker does his 87th stutter on approach” and added frustrated emojis to make it clear how he felt.
Polish coach Michel Probierz was also asked about the penalty after the match, but does not care about Lewandowski’s style.
“I won’t tell Robert how to score penalties when he has scored almost 600 goals in his career,” he told reporters. “I don’t care how he scores them. The most important thing is that he scored.
