Man Utd have over £86m ready to sign Benfica prodigy

Manchester United have more than £86 million ready to sign Benfica prodigy Joao Neves this summer, according to today’s edition of the Record.

The Red Devils have been closely monitoring Neves’ progress and have sent officials to monitor the teenager in action against Sporting this evening.

Save (page 6) report that the club are willing to pay more than £86million to convince Benfica to part with their prized asset at the end of the season.

The fee could exceed the record £90million paid for Paul Pogba’s transfer from Juventus, but Benfica appear determined to keep him.

This suggests the prodigy may not be allowed to leave for anything less than the £103million buyout clause in his contract with the Portuguese club.

Neves would be an ideal replacement for Casemiro

The 19-year-old, who has been described as a “excellent‘ by Bruno Fernandes, has been hugely impressive since his breakthrough with Benfica last season.

During the current campaign, he has completed 56 passes per game with 90 percent accuracy.

Apart from this, the teenager has won an impressive 6.2 duels and 2.1 tackles per league game with 6.7 ball recoveries. He completed almost 60 percent of his dribbles.

In our opinion, he could be considered an ideal replacement for Casemiro this summer. The Portuguese has better distribution and ball control than the Brazilian international.

Despite his young age, he showed a lot of maturity. Neves and Kobbie Mainoo could form a brilliant center of the park pivot for United over the next decade.

United have a good working relationship with his representative Jorge Mendes, but they may have to trigger his £103million release clause to sign him from Benfica.

Mendes has snubbed negotiations on contract renewal for Neves, which suggests the super-agent is trying to secure a big-money transfer for him this summer.
