While Afghanistan suffered failure in their first World Cup semi-final experience, South Africa managed to break a streak of failed attempts in the World Cup semi-finals, securing a place in the final against India or England.
Vaughan highlighted the logistical challenges faced by the Afghanistan team, including a significant flight delay to Trinidad, which resulted in insufficient preparation time at the new location.
“So Afghanistan qualified for the semi-finals of the World Championships, winning in St Vincent on Monday evening. 4 hour flight delay on Tuesday in Trinidad, so no time to train or get used to it to a new venue.. total disrespect to the players I’m afraid,” Vaughan posted on ‘X’.
Additionally, Vaughan criticized the scheduling of the semifinal matches, arguing that the scheduling appeared to favor Indian viewing times, potentially at the expense of fairness to other participating teams.
“This semi-final surely should have been Guyana’s… but since the whole event is geared towards India, it’s so unfair to the others… #T20IWorldCup,” another article said.
Criticizing India’s schedule in this T20 World Cup, he wrote: “They have not played a single evening match in the World Championship.”
The ongoing ICC T20 World Cup paved the way for a much-awaited rematch between India and England on Thursday after the former’s huge defeat to the latter in the World Cup semi-final T20 2022.
