Other ISL clubs criticized the FSDL for postponing the Mohun Bagan match.
THE Indian Super League (ISL) is almost at the end of its activities with different clubs trying to achieve their goals. While Mohun Bagan And Mumbai City FC are already qualified for the playoffs, they are looking to challenge for the ISL Shield title.
Between all this, the Mohun Bagan Super Giant vs Mumbai City FC, initially scheduled for April 14, 2024, has been shifted to April 15, 2024. This decision by the FSDL comes after the Mohun Bagan management requested the postponement of their match citing the auspicious occasion of “Bengali New Year”.
Bengali New Year is a big celebration in West Bengal and the Kolkata giant wanted to avoid the match on this auspicious day. After the FSDL accepted his request for a date change, several ISL clubs expressed their displeasure with the decision by criticizing the league committee, calling it unfair.
They also raised concerns over an incident in which Odisha FC requested that their league match be postponed due to the AFC Cup, but this was refused. Therefore, this decision by the FSDL was unfair and biased, this is what other clubs think.
However, the Mohun Bagan management seems happy with the decision as they look to salvage three points from the match against Mumbai City and reach the top of the table. Mumbai are currently top of the ISL table with 41 points from 19 matches. Mohun Bagan are just behind them in second position with 39 points from 18 matches.
As Mohun Bagan looks to continue their momentum for the ISL Shield, Mumbai City will no doubt be a tough guy standing in their way. Therefore, this move by the FSDL, criticized by most ISL clubs, will raise a question about the league’s authority in matters of bias.
