Opponent Watch: Atletico Madrid defender ruled out of Barcelona clash

As Barcelona prepare to face Atletico Madrid in La Liga on Sunday evening, the Blaugrana received a boost in the form of an injury from an opposing player.

Indeed, as officially confirmed Atletico Madridkey defender Mario Hermoso was ruled out of the match against Barcelona with a thigh injury.

“Mario Hermoso suffers from a muscle injury in his left thigh, according to the tests that the Madrid central defender underwent at Vithas Hospital”, the declaration of The Red and White read.

“The defender will begin physiotherapy sessions, will undergo rehabilitation training and is awaiting development.”

The 28-year-old is a regular starter for Atletico Madrid and has made 36 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and setting up one more.

Along with Hermoso, Atletico Madrid will likely also be without two other players, Thomas Lemar and Jose Maria Gimenez, both injured.

The absence of Hermoso and Gimenez weakens Atletico Madrid’s defense, giving Barcelona a great opportunity to take all three points at the Civitas Metropolitano on Sunday evening.

Barcelona interested in Beautiful

Curiously, Barcelona would be interested in signing Mario Hermoso during the summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old’s current contract with The Colchoneros expires at the end of the season and the Catalans are considering free transfer for Spain international.

As such, getting a closer look at him in action tomorrow night could have been beneficial. But Hermoso will now miss the La Liga encounter at the Civitas Metropolitano.
