Pep Guardiola discusses Real Madrid’s Champions League draw ahead of FA Cup clash with Newcastle

Manchester City Manager Pep Guardiola spoke to the media today in his pre-FA Cup quarter-final press conference, offering a preview of the upcoming clash against Newcastle Unitedwhile sharing his thoughts on drawing real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16.

Amid talk of the FA Cup, Guardiola answered questions regarding Manchester City’s fate in the Champions League. Drawing Real Madrid into the round of 16 undoubtedly sparked excitement and anticipation among fans, but Guardiola remained grounded in his approach. He highlighted the importance of facing a club as illustrious as Real Madrid, acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead.

“Facing Real Madrid? We have no other option,” Guardiola remarked. “It seems like a little tradition, playing three years in a row against the kings of the competition. I hope we arrive at the right time. You can’t control the draw, if people say it’s easy, it’s because you underestimate the opponent. The second leg at home, that’s what it is…”

Guardiola also provided an update on the status of Kevin de Bruyne.

“He feels good but he is not ready,” Guardiola said of de Bruyne’s health. “He played at Anfield with some problems. He is improving, we have spoken with Belgium and we hope he will recover for the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, Guardiola also confirmed that Jack Grealish is improving his fitness and “is back in the squad”.
