Jasprit Bumrah was the only Indian to be selected in a 2024 T20 World Cup ‘team of the tournament’ comprising England greats Michael Atherton And Nasser Hussein. The team, assembled with the T20 World Cup group stage in mind, saw the likes of Rohit Sharma, Rishabh pants and Arshdeep Singh are left out, despite exceptional performances. The English duo – now renowned commentators – analyzed and explained their choices on Air sports cricket.

Virat Kohli – the all-time leading run-getter in T20 World Cup history – will be hoping to make the team of the tournament at a later stage, having scored just five runs so far.

“We had Bumrah, obviously. He had to be there,” Nasser Hussain joked. Bumrah took five wickets in India’s first three matches, including two player-of-the-match awards, against Ireland and arch-rivals Pakistan.

Atherton and Hussain showed plenty of love for some of the unsung heroes of the tournament. Afghanistan Rahmanullah GurbazScotland Brandon McMullen and the USA Aaron Jones all made their XI.

After winning IPL 2024, Gurbaz was outstanding, scoring 167 runs in four innings with a strike rate of over 150. McMullen scored at an even faster rate, with a strike rate of 170.

Australia Marcus Stoinis was the only all-rounder chosen by Atherton and Hussain. Stoinis is the third highest run-scorer in the 2024 T20 World Cup so far, with a phenomenal strike rate of 190. Incredibly, he has also picked six wickets in four matches, with an economy of just 5.77.

The Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup begins on Wednesday, June 19, as hosts USA take on South Africa in Group II.
