It was a night to forget Hardik Pandya as captain of Mumbai Indians on Thursday as his team conceded 277/3 in 20 overs – the most by any team in IPL history. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered a 31-run victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday. After SunRisers Hyderabad scored 277/3, Rohit Sharma (26 runs from 12 balls) and Ishan Kishan (34 off 13 balls) opened for the visitors and gave a fiery start to the Mumbai-based franchise. However, two quick dismissals helped Hyderabad make a comeback in the match.
Tilak Varma (64 runs off 34 balls) was the only notable batter for Mumbai. He slammed two fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 188.24 during his stay in the crease.
Tim David (42 runs from 22 balls) tried to form a partnership with Tilak but still failed to achieve the highest-scoring target.
Jaydev Unadkat And Patrick Cummins led the Hyderabad bowling attack as they scalped two wickets each in their respective spells. Shahbaz Ahmed picked up a wicket in his spell of 3 overs and helped the hosts to a 31-run victory in the match.
A video has gone viral where Hardik Pandya can be seen running towards the boundary line with Rohit Sharma saying something to him. Commentators can be heard saying, “Rohit’s involvement is visible. Hardik Pandya is heading towards the boundary to take the field.”
The video went viral, especially after, during MI’s first match, Pandya could be seen telling Rohit to go to the boundary line.
Earlier in the innings, MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and had hosts SRH bat first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Openers Mayank Aggarwal and Travis head came out to bat. Both batters played offensive shots early in the inning. They built a 45-run partnership in just 4 overs before Mayank was dismissed on the first ball of the innings by Hardik. He managed to score 11 points.
SRH completed their fifty in 4.4 overs. Head slammed a boundary off the bowling of Pandya. After Mayank’s dismissal, Abhishek Sharma came out to bat. He and Head built a 68-run partnership from just 23 balls. Head was sent back to the pavilion after playing an outstanding knock of 62 runs in 24 balls which were laced with nine fours and three sixes in the innings.

After the wicket of Head, former SRH skipper Aiden Markram came to support Abhishek. Both batters bowled brilliantly and put together a partnership of 48 runs in just 19 balls before Abhishek was dismissed after playing a marvelous innings of 63 runs in just 23 balls with the help of seven maximums and three boundaries.
The Hyderabad franchise completed the 150-run mark on the second ball of the 11th over as the left-handed batter scored a single off the bowling of Chawla. After Abhishek’s wicket, Klassen came to middle to bat with Markram.
Both built an unbeaten partnership of 116 runs off just 55 balls. Klassen remained unbeaten with 80 off 34 with seven maximums and four boundaries.
SRH team completed their 200 runs on the fourth ball of the 15th over as Klassen struck a maximum off the bowling of the right-arm seamer. Jasprit Bumrah and completed the 250-point mark in the 19th.
For MI, one wicket each was taken by Pandya, Gerald Coetzeeand Chawla in their spells where they conceded 46, 57 and 34 runs respectively.
