Sanju Samson argues with umpire after controversial dismissal; DC owner Parth Jindal goes crazy as RR camp lies in ruins

Delhi Capitals managed to survive a thriller against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium as opposition captain Sanju Samson single-handedly threatened to end the mighty chase. They eventually managed to script a 20-run win to keep their playoff hopes alive in IPL 2024, while Rajasthan succumbed to a second straight defeat. Despite winning in a fierce contest, Samson's groundbreaking dismissal under controversial circumstances monopolized all the attention.

Released or not?

Chasing 222 races for victory Delhi, Samson was the only warrior for Rajasthan Royals. He came to the opening crease after Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed on the second ball of the innings, and delivered his aggressive knock in style as he raced towards 40 runs in the powerplay.

The Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper lacked major support from the top order with the batters around him making cameos. Samson, however, kept the fight alive by landing his fifty in record time before racing towards his hundred. But eyes were still on victory. His efforts prevented Rajasthan 63 from securing a playoff spot, with five overs in hand, before smashing a slot ball straight to long-on.

When it looked like Samson was on his way to six more, Shai Hope, who was stationed in the deep, judged the aerial catch perfectly, but had to be more careful about whether his feet touched the boundary ropes. An initial view of the layoff seemed to indicate that there was a possibility his feet had touched the ropes, given that he was standing extremely close at the time of the catch, but DC players began celebrating the layoff with glee .

RR unhappy with call

The decision was quickly returned to the television referee, who looked at the catch from a few, but not all, angles before concluding that it was a clean catch. But Samson does not seem convinced by this dismissal. He charged at the umpires and argued violently with the match officials as Rajasthan Royals director of cricket and head coach Kumar Sangakkara and the rest of the dugout members lay in ruins. Shocked by the dismissal, they all stood to carefully watch the replay again while Samson helplessly returned to the pavilion. Meanwhile, DC co-owner Parth Jindal lost his cool in the stands as he kept shouting that it was over.

Samson was dismissed for 86 off 46. There was still hope for RR with Rovman Powell leaving the visitors' last batting hope, but he failed to make much difference as the team lost by 20 points.
