Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto has hailed Pau Cubarsi after another sensational performance from the youngster against Napoli.
The Catalans booked their place in the quarter-finals of the competition with a 3-1 victory over the Serie A champions in a match where Cubarsi once again won the MVP award.
Roberto, who scored Barcelona’s third goal, was quick to congratulate the teenager after a special night for the Catalans.
“Pau Cubarsí is incredible. He was truly the best player on the pitch. At this age, he never ceases to surprise us all,” he said.
“To reach the quarter-finals with one of our youngsters playing like that – I hope he plays for Barcelona all his life. Humble, talented and hard-working, that’s the philosophy of La Masia.
Roberto also spoke about the special night for the team after reaching the quarter-finals for the first time in four years.
“It was an incredible night. It’s been four years since we were where this club deserves to be [the quarter finals]. The fans deserve to be there too and they were so important tonight,” he added.
“We all knew that was the key to starting the game well. And we did it. They got themselves into the game at 2-1 and given that we had a very good first half of the game in Naples but didn’t make it, I was happy to help ensure that we didn’t Let’s not let this happen here. .”
“Everything went perfectly in this move which led to our third goal. Gündoğan gave me the ball and I just saw Robert [Lewandowski] alone at the penalty spot out of the corner of my eye!
