The T20 World Cup schedule in the United States and the Caribbean looks a little strange due to the risk of a tight turnaround between the semi-finals and the final. With the two semi-finals scheduled for June 26 and 27 and the final scheduled for June 29, it can potentially be tight, with one team having to play the semi-final and final on consecutive days.

It could well be argued that such a scenario is unlikely given that June is a summer month in the Caribbean, but the fact is that the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) have planned reserve days. There could well be a slightly abnormal scenario.

If the second semi-final continues the next day (June 28), the winners of the competition will have to compete in the final in less than 24 hours. Additionally, they will have to travel from Providence, Guyana to Bridgetown, Barbados during this period. More pertinently, the affected team could be India if they manage to reach the title clash.

As per schedule, India will play their semi-final on June 27 at 8:30 PM IST (if they qualify). A CWI official said the ICC also controls the playing rules of the tournament and the West Indies board cannot comment. Cricbuzz has contacted the ICC for a reaction. Through a press release on March 15, however, he confirmed the reserve days for the final three matches of the 55-match tournament.

“It was also confirmed during the meetings that the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 would have reserve days planned for the semi-finals and final,” the ICC said in a press release to the resulting from a meeting of the board of directors. If such a scenario were to occur, the ICC could have to move the final to its reserve day, June 30. But she hasn't said it clearly yet.

The World Cup begins on June 1.

This is an unprecedented situation as there were enough gaps between the reserve day of the second semi-final and the final in previous world events. In last year's World Cup in India, the second semi-final between South Africa and Australia took place on November 16 and the final on November 19 in Ahmedabad.

During the last Twenty20 World Cup in 2022 in Australia, the second semi-final, between India and England, was played on November 10 and the final on November 13. Going back further, the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup at the 2021 edition in the United Arab Emirates took place between Pakistan and Australia on November 11 in Dubai, while the final between Australia and New Zealand took place at the same venue on November 14. Never before in recent years have the semi-final and final been scheduled so closely.
