New Delhi,UPDATED: June 15, 2024 12:02 PM IST

Former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram took a dig at the Pakistan team as he revealed his plans after the T20 World Cup 2024 exit. The Pakistan team was eliminated from the tournament right from the group stage itself- even. Due to bad weather in Lauderhill, Florida, the points were split between Ireland and the United States. Therefore, Team USA created history by qualifying for the Super 8 stage of the tournament in their first-ever appearance at the T20 World Cup.

Akram congratulated the USA team for reaching the next stage of the showpiece tournament as they also sealed their place for the 2026 T20 World Cup. He also took a dig at the Pakistan team and added that Pakistan's next plan should board the return flight. Pakistan's torrid tournament was marked by a rushed exit, all thanks to the gloomy Florida skies.

“Yeah, absolutely. And congratulations to Team USA. They did incredibly well when you talk about globalization of the game. Here's the USA qualifying for the Super Eights. They deserve to be there. They beat Pakistan in the first leg. So they are there. And for Pakistan there was the EK 601 plan to Dubai and then to the respective cities and then we see what happens from there,” Akram said in a statement. video published by the ICC on its social networks.

Pakistan's poor performance in the T20 World Cup

Pakistan's only victory so far in the tournament was against Canada. They will also face Ireland in the Group A match on June 16, Sunday in Lauderhill, Florida. However, flash flood warnings and rainy weather conditions could prevent the game from taking place. Former Pakistani players have heavily criticized captain Babar Azam, for his own form as well as the team's overall performance. This is the first time Pakistan have been eliminated from a T20 World Cup, having played just 3 matches before their fate was sealed.
