Across India, city police are using the current IPL fever to convey important messages on road safety through creative social media campaigns. Capitalizing on the nation’s love for cricket, these campaigns go beyond humor to effectively grab attention and resonate with audiences.
The campaigns do not necessarily feature cricket stars or use direct analogies, but exploit exciting moments from matches to highlight specific traffic rules. This innovative approach proved to be a success, with the cricket theme making the road safety message more memorable.
The West Bengal Police’s recent post on social media perfectly illustrates this strategy. Inspired by a sixer hit by Virat Kohli, they created a message promoting the use of helmets on the roads. In the video, RCB captain Virat Kohli hit a slow shot from IPL’s costliest player Mitchell Starc over deep square leg for a six. In response, the Bangalore crowd collapsed.
Using this clip, the West Bengal Police wrote: “Haar jeet ke hiseb rakhe. Rajar mukut mathaye thank you.” which, translated into English, means: “Who takes account of victories and losses? The king’s crown is intact on his head. »
