The race is on for the new head coach of Indian men's cricket. However, a popular name, MS Dhoniis not eligible to become a coach, once Rahul Dravid resigns after ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The reason? Anyone applying for the position must be removed from the game in all formats. Despite retiring from international cricket in 2020, Dhoni is still playing in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings and hence cannot be elected as head coach.

Dhoni, being arguably the most popular Indian cricketer, has received his fair share of shouts on social media for becoming the new coach of the Indian team.

However, this does not rule out Dhoni's potential involvement in the team. It is important to remember that he mentored the Indian team in the 2021 T20 World Cup, hosted in the United Arab Emirates. That time, India collapsed in the group stage.

There is also no indication that Dhoni will retire after IPL 2024, while he is still in good form. This year, he scored with a strike rate of over 220, being dismissed only three times in 11 innings.

Who is the favorite to become India's new head coach?

Applications for the post of India head coach closed on Monday. The BCCI had released a public Google form for candidates to apply. More than 3,000 applications were received.

Many applications were fake and carried the names of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Sachin Tendulkar It's a hoax, as reported by the Indian Express.

Having recently conquered the IPL for the third time, the Kolkata Knight Riders mentor Gautam Gambhir has been mentioned as a potential candidate. Stephen Fleming And Ricky Ponting I've also seen their names in rumors.

However, the BCCI is yet to release the final list of candidates.
