Indian batter Virat Kohli all set to join Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pre-season camp ahead of the match Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. As per reports in India today, it is learned that the batter will join the team before March 17.
Virat Kohli to join RCB camp ahead of team’s annual ‘Unbox’ promotional event March 19 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. He joins the team ahead of their trip to Chennai for the opening match against CSK. March 22.
IPL 2024 will also mark Virat Kohli’s return to competitive cricket after two and a half months. He was last seen in action during the T20I series against Afghanistan. He played the three-match series, which was also his comeback series in T20Is after the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Virat Kohli was then named in Indin’s squad for the Test series against England, but at the last minute he pulled out. The striker made himself unavailable for family reasons and it was later revealed that his wife had given birth to their second child in London.
The upcoming IPL 2024 will be extremely important for Virat Kohli as there has been a lot of talk about his future in T20Is. Some reports suggest that the batter will not be selected for the 2024 T20 World Cup because the selectors are not keen.
Reports claim that the selectors feel that the slow tracks of the West Indies do not suit his game and hence want him to make way for the youngsters. Therefore, the upcoming IPL 2024 becomes extremely important for him in terms of selection for the T20 World Cup 2024.
Virat Kohli would like to make a bigger impact in the tournament. He is the best run-getter in the IPL and has been an absolute beast for the team. He hopes to lead his team to win the title for the first time in league history.
He needs a season like 2016 – Harbhajan Singh on Virat Kohli
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh believes Virat Kohli must be ready to bat 20 overs in IPL 2024. He believes that if that happens, RCB can put up a match-winning performance.
Harbhajan Singh added that Virat Kohli needs to replicate his 2016 season, where he scored 973 runs. The former player claimed that if that happens, RCB will have a good chance of winning. Speaking to Star Sport, he explained:
“If he is actually willing to bat around 20 overs, then he can put in a match-winning performance because two hundreds at the approachable Chinnaswamy does not necessarily guarantee the same at Chepauk.
“It’s important for him to have a season like 2016, because if Virat continues to score runs, the team will move forward. I don’t know if they will win the cup or not.
The first match of IPL 2024 will be played between RCB and CSK March 22 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
