‘Won’t see the real Rishabh Pant…’: Sunil Gavaskar’s honest view on DC captain’s return in IPL 2024 | Cricket

Batting great Sunil Gavaskar believes that Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant may take some time to regain his cricketing proficiency upon his return to competitive cricket during IPL 2024. Pant will play his first competitive match since the horrific car accident in December 2022. The wicketkeeper batter has been declared fit by the BCCI and NCA for the role of wicketkeeper batter. However, it won’t be an easy task for Pant to get back to his best straight away, it might take some time to settle back into the game.

Rishabh Pant is all set to return to competitive cricket.

“It will be very difficult. But the good thing is that it (Panting) played cricket. So he has had some practice. Mastering the bat is a bit difficult,” Gavaskar told ‘Star Sports’.

Gavaskar elaborated and said that when a batter is recovering from a knee injury, he will respond better once he starts batting more and more in match situations.

“When you talk about a knee injury, the pivoting that takes place. Keeping wicket is also difficult, but even in batting, the knee is very important. So, maybe initially we won’t see the real Rishabh. Pants we are used to,” the maestro said.

Panting’His presence and talkative nature also adds to the entertainment quotient,” admitted Gavaskar.

“To find a wicketkeeper like him commentating from behind the stumps is an entertainment in itself because there are a lot of wicketkeepers who would like to disrupt your concentration by saying different things.”

“…..but Rishabh pants has the ability to say such a thing that the one he targets, they also laugh, they also enjoy it. But when you take advantage of it, their concentration decreases a little, right? The advantage is therefore for his team.”

Gavaskar said he was also looking forward to seeing the Gujarat Titans. Shubman Gil in the captaincy role as the talented youngster will lead an IPL team for the first time.

“That’s going to be the most important thing: how he can handle the captaincy. Will it affect and impact his batting? And the second thing is there’s a commonality in our initials; we are both SG, and if we go even further, my initials are SMG and he has Shubh-Man Gill in his name,” he added.
