You can't command or demand respect, it has to be earned: MS Dhoni | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Legendary wicketkeeper-batsman and former Indian skipper MS Dhoni pointed out that a captain earns respect by the way he “walks and talks” in moments of defeat.
Dhoni, 42, is one of the most decorated captains in cricket history and the first to win all ICC white-ball trophies: ICC T20 World Cup (2007), ICC Cricket World Cup (2011) and the ICC Champions Trophy. (2013).
Dhoni also led Super Kings of Chennai to five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 (CLT20) titles.

“You lead by example through the ups and downs because when you're successful it's very easy to say this is what we do, but when times are tough it's real time and you have to lead by example – in those moments, if you are always the same, this time you will earn respect,” MS Dhoni said in a video posted by YouTube channel Dubai Eye 103.8.

Throughout the season, Dhoni has accumulated 161 runs in 11 innings of 14 matches at a strike rate of 220.54 and an average of 53.67.

“The important thing is that you have to earn the respect of the people you lead. You cannot command or demand respect, you have to earn it. I may have a position in the institution and it must be respected. But I too a person sitting in this chair must deserve this respect I cannot say that you must respect me because I am sitting in this chair,” he added.
CSK's chances of making the playoffs were dashed on Saturday after they lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League match. During the match, Dhoni bowled around four overs, amassing 25 runs at a strike rate of 192.31.
After CSK endured this heartbreaking loss, all eyes and cameras were focused on Dhoni, eagerly waiting for him to hint at his future. However, the veteran wicketkeeper remained tight-lipped, leaving fans anticipating his next move.
With five IPL titles, Dhoni and former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma are tied for the most successful captain records in league history.
Dhoni handed over the captaincy baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad before the IPL2024 season.
