'You don't have to play anymore': Virat Kohli asks Chris Gayle to make IPL comeback

Royal Challengers Bengaluru had a special guest in their dressing room after their memorable victory against Chennai Super Kings that sealed their place in the IPL 2024 playoffs last weekend. RCB legend Chris Gayle was present at the contest at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium as he watched his former IPL franchise win a thriller to complete a stunning turnaround.

After the match, as the RCB players were refreshing themselves in the dressing room, Gayle visited them, congratulating them for recovering from six consecutive defeats to finish among the top four in the IPL 2024 league stage.

Virat Kohli, with whom Gayle formed a wonderful partnership for RCB during his playing days, seemed very happy to meet the IPL icon.

And Kohli joked that since the Impact Player rule was introduced by the IPL, maybe it's time for Gayle to make his competitive comeback.

“Kaka, come back next year.” Impact Player is active now. You no longer have to play on the field. It’s designed for you,” a beaming Kohli said in a clip shared by RCB on its social media handles.

Kohli excitedly boasted to Gayle about hitting 37 sixes in IPL 2024, the most of any batter (before Sunrisers Hyderabad's Abhishek Sharma surpassed him on Sunday night, taking his tally to 41 for the season).

“Maximum sixes this season!”, Kohli could be heard telling Gayle who hit the most sixes in IPL history – 357 in 141 innings.

A surprised Gayle replied: “How much?”

“37!”, replied Kohli.
